End Of The Holidays
Remember that Stamp Duty Land Tax is currently "on holiday" for properties up to £175,000 in value. From 1 January 2010, the "normal" threshold of £125,000 for the 1% rate will be restored. On a property costing £170,000, there will be an immediate increase in cost of £1,700, because SDLT is charged on the whole consideration rather than just the amount above the threshold. If you are thinking of buying a property which currently benefits from this rule, it's worth getting on with it before Christmas.
